Bingham Canyon Open Pit Mineby *nmsmith

This is a six-photo panoramic stitch of the Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine near Salt Lake City, Utah. I took my family there today to visit the mine. It's quite a sight - over 3/4 of a mile deep, two miles wide - supposedly the largest open pit mining operation in the world. It is easily seen from space. This hole used to be a mountain! The dump trucks you see at the bottom of the pit are each larger than most houses. A man standing next to one of the wheels would be dwarfed by it.

Wonderful work- most photos of something like this don't really do it justice- too much open space in the frame, or not enough detail to really take in how much is actually there.
