Out shooting some photos, and ran into this brilliant red, very curious bird. He must of thought I looked weird hiding behind the camera lens, for he stared at me quite a while before flying off. Larger image if you click download.

House finch! I get those at the feeder every day, along with western bluebirds, orioles, house sparrows, chickadees, pine siskins, goldfinches and California quails. :D

Nice capture of a House Finch, love the tilt to his head :aww: From my understanding, the brilliancy of the red is tied to the seasons as well as a part of their diet (berries). I've seen some that are a bit of a duller red - especially during winter - and then in spring the reds become more brilliant, like the one I [photographed] a couple weeks ago.

Thanks, my friend. I didn't know what kind of bird it was - so it was good to have you tell me a little about them. There are some berry bushes just on the other side of that wall - I'm sure that's what attracted him. Thanks for sharing your photo with me, too. :)

Have a great day!

Nathan

Aw! :giggle: What an adorable birdie. He was probably wondering what the heck you were doing. Or trying to figure out why you only had one eye.
