I found a message I think I need to repeat to myself each morning when I arise and face a new day...

YouTube Video:  www.youtube.com/watch?feature=…

About the video:  A Moving Art original short. This inspirational video was well responded at TED conferences and filmmaker Louie Schwartzberg motivates those around him as happiness is revealed. Music is by Gary Malkin and narration is from Brother David Steindl-Rast.  It begins with a young girl talking about imagination, and then Brother David Steindl-Rast says the following...

Here is the text of the video...

You think that this is just another day in your life...
It's not just another day.
It's the one day that is given to you - today...
It's given to you.
It's a gift.
It's the only gift that you have right now...
...and the only appropriate response is gratefulness.

If you do nothing else but to cultivate that response to the great gift that this unique day is...
If you learn to respond as if it were the first day in your life
and the very last day
then you will have spent this day very well.

Begin by opening your eyes, and be surprised that you have eyes you can open
That incredible array of colors that is constantly offered to us for our pure enjoyment.

Look at the sky.
We so rarely look at the sky.
We so rarely note how different it is from moment to moment, with clouds coming and going.
We just think of the weather, and even with the weather we don't think of all the many nuances of weather...
We just think of "good weather" and "bad weather."

This day, right now, with its unique weather, maybe a kind that will never exactly in that form come again..
The formation of clouds in the sky will never be the same as it is right now...

Open your eyes.  Look at that.

Look at the faces of people whom you meet.
Each one has an incredible story behind their face, a story that you could never fully fathom.
Not only their own story, but the story of their ancestors.
We all go back so far...

And in this present moment on this day, all the people you meet, all that life from generations and from so many places all over the world flows together and meets you here like a life giving water if you only open your heart and drink.

Open your heart to the incredible gifts that civilization gives to us.
You flip a switch and there is electric light.
You turn a faucet and there is warm water, and cold water, and drinkable water...
a gift that millions and millions in the world will never experience.

So these are just a few of an enormous number of gifts to which you can open your heart.

And so I am wishing you will open your heart to all these blessings and let them flow through you.
That everyone you will meet on this day will be blessed by you,
just by your eyes, by your smile, by your touch, just by your presence.

Let the gratefulness overflow into blessing all around you.
Then it will REALLY be a good day.

Wow Nathan,
What a message!  This touched my heart and made me cry.  My mom departed this life on the 17th of July.  So my gratitude for all the years of her  love and guidance is very fresh in my mind and heart.  This will be a daily ritual for me from now on.

Thanks for sharing this.  By the way, I love TED videos and have subscribed to them for years.  I have to find one for you to see.  You will love it.  I'll post the link to you on your home page.

It is a beautiful video indeed, it's touching, and make you think profound thoughts.
Much of the things he says, I do they, like spend times feeling the wind blows, watching the sky, streets, or even just my hand, and think how wonderful and amazing we are, for the complexity he have, thinkin' how many muscles we need to move just a finger, and say thanks that we can do it, or think how bad if we don't do it having the chance to, when there's people that don't even have arms.

I try to look the positive side, the deep and reflective side of everything, even cartoons that are my area ^^

My mom used to say that I'm too unmature, because I don't worry or care for anything, but not far ago she noticed that's no true, is not like I'm unmature, is just that I love to keep my childhood-side with me, I'm too curious, and most of the time I don't give up for silliness or preocupations, I just do what I have to, or what i want to, and try to smile for it. I also try to feel and listen to the music, and not just play it.

i think next time I write a journal I will share this video, it's really a good video. :)

I recommend you to watch two of my many favorite movies: "What Dreams My Come" and "August rush", they are really beautiful, and the topic is just lovely on my opinion.

Hi Kim!

It's great to keep that childlike curiosity and wonder into adulthood. So glad you enjoyed the video.

I've watched both "What Dreams May Come" and "August Rush" - and enjoyed both of them. "What Dreams May Come" is a visual delight. I love the music in "August Rush."

I hope you're having a wonderful day, my friend.

Nathan

I know, keep your child side is good on so many forms :) that even gives you so many perspectives for life, and friends ^^
I think that's the reason I get along so well with a lot of people ^^

I loved those movies, they are well worked, and the stories gave me so many reflections and ideas :)

I think it is interesting that I find myself from time to time doing a lot of what he says to do. I'm always looking around me, even when I pass through a dull part of town, I still see things that interest me, like a little spot of color on a building, and I wonder how it got there, or who put it there, if it was even deliberate or not. Or the texture of the bricks, or a wall and it's paint, how the paint is peeling, and wondering why it does that the way it does.

I sometimes still feel I get caught up in the worry and problems around me, and the strife, and even if it is frequent, it doesn't last long. I like to just put on my music sometimes when I'm out in the city, which drowns the sounds around me a little, and just focus on what I /see/ instead, or even smell. Other times I focus instead on what I /hear/. Sometimes I even find myself spending an usual amount of time just studying a small object I noticed some where, trying to imprint it's shape on my thoughts, and contemplating it's color, and texture, both to the touch and visually...just what people often consider to be every day objects I often find reason to pay attention to and study. Or looking at something from a printer, to a door hinge, and trying to understand how it works and why. Haha, maybe even the grain on a piece of paper. And I /love/ peoples faces, and hands, legs, clothing, skin, hair...XD even eyebrows...I just worry they might think I'm weird staring at them XD

I think more often then not, I can thank my artistic side for why I find even an ordinary object to have so many fascinating aspect about it, and my love of technology and curiosity being the reasons I try to understand how things function.

I don't do it all of the time, I forget sometimes, or other things get in the way, but some times I surprise myself at just what I might notice, then even wonder why I did, what was it about that thing that caught my eye, or even how often I do it.

I shouldn't do it here...I could go on and on about little things I've seen, or where I find intrigue.

Genisay, I think you and I are very much alike in that regard. My mother and father tell me that I spent endless hours as a small child looking at things through the transparent window of a business envelope. I rejoice in color, shape, form, texture - all the marvelous features of being a physical being.

It's so nice to meet another person who enjoys these things too.

I hope you're having a beautiful day!

I hope you are as well, and it's nice to meet someone who understands what that is like. It's kind of one of those things that it is hard to explain to some one who has never done it for themselves. Like eating that kind of food where you just can't properly compare the taste to something else, because it has a taste that is all it's own.
